Hi,

I'd like to make the italian translation for web2project.

In the locales directory I copied a directory and renamed "it". In the translation management page I then see the italian translation and can edit it. In the admin menu I cannot select the italian translation.

Did I do something wrong? Which is the correct way to add a new translation?

Thanks, Paolo

An Italian translation is great.

Honestly, I do not write translations, so I don't know the best way to do it.

Can anyone make any suggestions?

I'll take a dark stab at it.

I see a folder titled "locales" off the root w2p folder. Inside are the locationizations that ship with w2p. What I would try is to copy any of these folders (I'd choose Portuguese for Italian) something like cp pt/ it/ THEN you should see that language as an available language in the Translation Management page. Remember that to see the changes, you must set your user settings for localization appropriately.

But that's just a guess.

Ok, I had already found the way to "add" a translation to the translations menu. If you copy the directory works!

But then I cannot find the language in the user config!

Thanks, Paolo

AH. It's not in the user config, it's in the User Preferences. Please check that out and let us know if you find it.

Hi,

This is where I checked, both from the default user preferences from the admin windows and also from the user preferences under user config.

The italian translation does not come out inside the list!!!

Thanks, Paolo

If you've changed the individual users' preferences, that should do it. Try logging out and back in... see if there's some sort of caching.

I really don't work with Translations very often, so I don't know all the nuances.

I've found the problem. Inside the locale directory, inside the "it" dir (in my case...) there is a file named lang.php where the language name is defined.

I had to update it to

Code:
$LANGUAGES['it'] = array($dir, 'Italiano (IT)', 'Italiano (IT)', 'Italiano_ITALIA');

and now it's working.

Only one more question. When I'm ok with the translation, how can I upload it to you?

Thanks, Paolo

The best way would be to create a tar or zip of the file and file a report in our bug tracker: http://bugs.web2project.net/

That will get it into the todo/fix list and make it trackable for everyone involved/interested. Thanks. Smile

I don't know that he made the translation available.

Regardless, if he does, I'll happily add it to core.

Hi everybody.
I have just finished with my core italian translation...
There are some little imperfections that I'm trying to fix (some specific IT words that I'm trying to understand before translating), anyway it works.
Let me know if I can post it here or elsewhere.
Thanks

p.

You should be able to zip it and upload it here or create a Feature Request on http://bugs.web2project.net and attach it there.

Either way, if at least one other person - preferably more - will validate it, it could be in v2.0 in June.

Thanks. Smile

This is the italian translation of web2Project core, waiting for validation...
Just unzip it in the "locales" folder and change your locales settings in the system and user admin modules.
Thank you so much for the great work you all have done in developing web2Project, I'm really happy to give this little contribute and hope it will be useful to someone.
ciao!

Good job Paola...
but when i tried to use it, in calendar the date was showed unless the week-day, i.e. "Mercoledì, 07/07/2010" was showed as " , 07/07/2010"...

I think that it don't depends on your translation...

I use version 2.0 of w2p
I tried to make myself a transation since 1.2 version, but I've got the same result!!!
I try to modify weekday name in translation administration, but no chance!
Is it a code language problem, such as utf-8 or similar?

I'm using w2p v. 2.0 with win xp pro sp3, xampp with:
- Apache 2.2.14
- MySQL 5.1.41
- PHP 5.3.1

Had anyone got similar problem???

Alfredo

p.s.: many thanks to developers!!! great works!!!

Hi Alfredo,
I have the same problem.
I thought it was due to problems with the special character "ì" (accented i) of the week days (lunedì, martedì, mercoledì, giovedì, venerdì).
So I replaced them with normal i , but it doesn't work still.
I think there is some problem with some text element, but I have no idea what it is...

I'm using w2p v. 1.3 with win xp pro sp3, xampp 1.7.3 with:
- Apache 2.2.14
- MySQL 5.1.41
- PHP 5.3.1

I hope someone could help.
Thanks!

Ciao
Paola

In the attachment you can find 3 images: week.jpg is the weekly view and you can see that the problem is related only to accented day names (lunedì, martedì, mercoledì, giovedì, venerdì), while sabato (sat) and domenica (sun) are perfect. The same in the day view; I've attached both an accented day (day_01) and a non-accented one (day_02). As I said in my previous post, the strange thing is that I've replaced those accented names with normal i , both in calendar and in common modules, but it doesn't work still.
thanks

Paola

ehm....
I have a news....
I asked to my friend to install w2p into his linux system. Then I gave the Paola's translation and... magically all week-days in Italian was OK.
...
The version of w2p into the Linux is the same of my installation on Win XP!!! (Such as 2.0)

The database was created manually with the UTF8_general_ci specification... As in the Win XP one...

What may I control to help you(all)???

Tell me!!!

It may depends on specification into the files "...\htdocs\web2project\locales\it\lang.php" and "...\htdocs\web2project\locales\it\locales.php"???

Ciao a tutti.
Alfredo.

After you changed your translation did you log out and log back in? Some things get cached when you log in.. I honestly don't know all of them.

Sure! I logged out and logged in in order to try if somethings would changed... but nothing happened!

I would add one thing:
I note that the first letter of the weekday in Windows installation is lowercase... even in translation was written in uppercase (i.e.: I written "Sabato" but I see "sabato"...)
(clearly this happen only for sabato e domenica; other day are not displayed)

All this doesn't happen in Linux installation: the day of the week are displayed as written in translation module!!!

It may be a bug of Xampp??? Or both Windows-Xampp???

As soon as possible I would try in a fresh installation without using Xampp, but single packet of Apache and MySQL.

What do you thing about???

I haven't worked with Xampp in over 3 years, so I don't know.

If you want to try it with a different configuration, check out Microsoft's Web Platform Installer (WebPI). It will install IIS, mysql, and PHP for you.

We do all of our IIS testing with WebPI.. not only is it easy, but their team has been *great* answering questions, etc.
